There are 15 open citizen initiatives collecting signatures in the European Citizen Initiative. Nine of them were registered in 2019 and five of them in the last month of May. These concern things like ending the aviation fuel tax exempetion, protection of biodiversity, solution to climate change and animal rights.
The European Citizen Initiative has been around since 2012 when the EU chose to let citizens of EU member states have a say on issues affecting them. This is done in the form of e-petitions. If an e- petition is sign by one million people from citizens from at least 7 countries (reaching a minimum threshold of signatures) in one year, then the EU Comission will decide what there is to be done.
